three little valentines

 Want to know something exciting?

How about several exciting things?!

Several weeks ago, in the thick of the ice storm, we received the final contract to sign and send back to our lawyer. It needed to be notarized, so we slowly made our way to the credit union to dot the i’s and cross the t’s in front of the person with the fancy stamp. And on the way home, we got a celebratory Starbucks just at the bottom of our hill.

Well, the parking lot was extra icy and we pumped the brakes so hard and with the temperature fluctuating, the brakes went out in my car. Exciting!

So, we inched our way up the hill just the three blocks to our home and coasted into the driveway using the emergency brake. Alec is a hero, truly!

(The brakes have since been repaired by another Martinez hero - Alec’s dad!)

Several days later we got word that the donors signed their portion of the contract and it was all finished. The three little embryos are officially ours!

We then had to wait for the clinic, agency and storage facility to communicate and coordinate about when the embryos would make their way to the PNW.

Our three chilly little embryos will be taking a speedy flight to Portland on Valentines Day. 🥹💕

Throughout this entire process I have grieved the lack of romance in how we are growing our family. I am a sucker for cheesy, unrealistic, romantic stuff. With fertility treatment there isn’t much spontaneity, fireworks, or googly heart eye emojis. Having the embryos take flight on Valentine’s Day? That just feels like an extra special gift. So kind and so generous. Thank you, Jesus for seeing and delighting in the things that I delight in.

So, what’s next?!

Well, shots! And not the fun kind.. 😉

The transfer of one little embryo will happen once everything lines up and our wonderful doctor says ‘Let’s go!’.

We have a date on the calendar, but we’ve decided to keep that information closer to our chests. We figured those getting pregnant the old fashioned way don’t announce the day they made it happen. This way, we can have the opportunity to authentically surprise folks with an announcement and keep that two week wait a little less filled with ‘how are you feeling?!’ and ‘any news yet?!’.

We are shooting for privacy in this stage, not secrecy. We hope you can understand and sit in the antsy unknowing for a bit 🥰

So friends, stay tuned! We are hoping, praying and crossing all the things that something very special will be growing this spring!

With Love & Gratitude,

Tiffany & Alec, too
